I'm in a very good mood this morning...

I'm really looking forward to Leprecon tomorrow, and also can't wait til next Wednesday night cos I'm totally in a cocktail frame of mind after reading the menu for Suas Cocktail bar in Cork: http://www.suasbar.com/pdf/drinksmenu.pdf
I'm going there with some of my workmates next week as they want to celebrate my birthday - or really they want an excuse to go get drunk! Either or which is fine by me :)

I'm pondering buying myself a new portable harddrive for my birthday (the last one exploded), but I'm not sure whether I want to buy one with a separate power source, or one that's powered by the USB itself. I totally would prefer not to have to carry a plug for it around with me, but I'm unsure as to whether the one charging from the USB would be much slower to work than the other one. I figure that could totally just be my imagination though!

I own a Western Digital Passport and it works perfectly.

It's USB charging, and faster than my older power sourced one.

It's also about a quarter the size and weight.

Yeah - the USB ones that I was looking at do seem way smaller than the old one I had that died. I'm not sure of the weight, but surely they weigh less than it if they're that much smaller!
Hmm, I think I might go with that...

I use an old LaCie 40Gb model (designed by F.A. Porsche, dontcha know.) USB charging, perfectly fast enough for my purposes. Can't be bothered carrying around a power transformer as well.

It really does sound so much more convenient than having an extra cable to carry about. I mean, sure, you probably have to carry a USB cable, but that's way more compact anyways!
