I've not been on for awhile...been busy busy busy doing absolutely nothing, where nothing includes drinking copious amounts of absinthe (with wormwood!), eating pies...and avoiding the dodgier aspects of the red light district in Sydney. The bar next door sold proper absinthe, and marvelled at our ability to turn up and order lots of absinthe, and no food to go along with it. Pie is good, prostitutes not quite as much....even though you'd think that with alliteration, pie and prostitutes would work well together, I reckon it's a very bad idea!

I bought a camera, so pictures will exist at some future stage - hopefully featuring Koalas, big scary spiders, roos, seals, a platypus and many other random things that I happened to see! Inculding the pidgeon that lived under the air conditioning vent! I got a lovely picture of the wonderful view from our hostel window too!

Times have been fun, I'll have to catch up with my posting soon! At the moment we're staying in this hostel in Brisbane where I'm half scared of waking up in a bath full of ice in the morning minus approximately one kidney! I'm really hoping it won't happen though...cos if it did, then I wouldn't get to go to gencon this week and meet Alan Tudyk and Yahtzee...and that just wouldn't do at all!

The weekend, so far, has been good!

On Thursday myself and Orla went for a girly dinner for two - in a wonderful Chinese restaurant off Patrick's Street (yum!), and we once again saw the "gamer wedding and funeral effect"...as a bunch of us piled into the cinema to watch The Hulk, with which I was quite impressed!
I would reccommend it...I won't say much as people haven't seen it, but the references and such were fantastic in the movie. I especially loved the music ref...People are saying it's Stan Lee's best cameo, but I'm unconvinced, although it was pretty sweet!

A couple friends of mine have moved into a new house for the summer, and I was given official naming rights for their house, so I've decided to christen it "Wits End".
Friday night, we had a party organised, under the guise of the "Wits End House Warming Party". In reality, it was a surprise joint 21st birthday party for Peter (whose birthday was last week) and James (whose birthday was months ago, but he ended up in hospital so no celebrations came of his birthday). There was cake, and BBQ (again!) and jamming...and many many many balloons!

Also on Friday, I found myself with a free brand new pair of fuck off black knee high docs...which are so pretty (although, they have a vendetta against my ankles, ow!).
I also got (free) a lovely lime green pair of converse, and two very long skirts which I'm gonna belt up and wear as dresses.
Dave gave me a lil Harley Quinn clix figure, and I was pleased! A pirate hat was procured as if by magic!
And, oh so strangely, I was handed custody of a Johnny Depp autograph for awhile! (Yes, there was head explody.)
Friday 13th seems to be the day of "give noirin random free shinies!"

Also, I'm quite happy to be able to say that as of Friday 13th, I've been single for 6 months! Which was what my vague goal was when myself and Kevin ended our three and a half year relationship before Christmas. So I'm quite proud that I managed to get to 6 months, and I'm also celebrating finishing up counselling, after so many months.

\o/

Right! I haven't posted in a good long while about what I've been up to, and I've been very busy this past week!

Last Friday, SOUPFEST 2008 took place, with tolcreator, the head chef! The soup was wonderful, as was the bread and the fantastic fresh soupfest apple pie (as provided by Denis! Thanks Denis <3). We all ate our fill and then watched the utter Cheeeeez which is Charlie's Angels 2: Full Throttle. Went to play on the swings by the Loch, with bats flying about overhead, and swans night-swimming, and some kids gave out that my accent was too posh to be from Cork, while they begged for drugs :P
Later that night, niamhybeag and uomouniversale arrived in Cork and we all went for tea in Fergal's and chips n Lennox's (Mmmm) before retiring to my place for the night. The directions to my place are, as follows: You leave civilisation from any one of three points. You drive straight for a bit. Then you drive some more. Then you keep going til you reach the middle of nowhere. When you noticed you're in the middle of nowhere, you keep driving for another while, and you'll come across my place ;)
On Saturday, uomouniversale ran a "This is not really Cam, honest!" Mage game for a group of the Cork folks, some who had no idea of the setting, and some who had been itching to play Mage for a good long while! It was a success, and pictures can be found here on the WARPS Forums if you're interested.
Dinner was had (Italian, mmm) and we wandered off in search of Ireland's (apparently) first and only Hookah Garden, in Utopianation
We smoked a Herbal hookah of peach and blackberry, and the opening night of the Hookah Garen seemed to be a success!
Then much drinking ensued, and a late night was had, followed by an early morning drive to Dublin!
Spent a really fun and relaxed couple days in Dublin! Read some Promethian and watched some MAD youtube vids, went drinking with arrgh_brains, where I kicked ass at the table mat flipping game ;) and for some mad reason was picked up by the_rev_cloney and uomouniversale and carried along the street a lil bit...and had a load of fun rockin out with kshandr , uomouniversale and cat_rant with Rock Band, which I now totally want to buy now!

Also, this long weekend has been a lot of fun.
It kinda started on Thursday evening when a friend of mine called over to my place to hang out, and had no plans for the night. First we considered going out to dinner, but quickly realised that there wouldn't be anyone about to come for dinner with us two. He had notions of going out for the night, maybe for a few drinks, but again we figured, that people wouldn't be about, same as when we wanted to go for dinner.
Then the madness ensued.
At 7pm we hopped in the car and headed for Dublin, and we were in the pub by about 10.30pm. I don't even know where this notion came from, but I definitely adore the randomness and spontanaety of it all! I'm Still so impressed by the novelty of being able to do something so spontaneous and not have to account for it at all - three and a half years will do that to you though, I suppose! I missed being so spontaneous and random, and jus going out and having a great time just not planning anything and seeing what happens! It usually goes so well for me...
Went to Cassidy's, which was really cool! I'd been wanting to see it for a good while, and it was nice to see people I totally didn't expect to see! :) Then myself, Donal, Peter, arrgh_brains and uomouniversale wandered to the Dragon for a bit, which was interesting. Very picky bouncers, very nice cocktails, very empty dance floor, and some drunkenness. Found myself back in my office in Cork early on Friday afternoon and got some work done, before heading home for a very early night!
On Saturday myself and tolcreator went for a 12km hike in Mucross Park! It was such a beautiful place, I almost wished I had had my camera with me...bits of it were so reminiscint of fantasy settings - and it totally felt like we were in the Shire at some points! Loved it...
Saturday night, I had organised a dinner for some WARPS folks in Curran's restaurant in town. It was tasty good, and I'm happy to say my appetite is beginning to return, as I managed to not only finish all of my own food, but got desert too! (as well as half a pitcher of Margarita!)
Afterwards we went, again, to the Hookah Garden in Utopianation, and had three MYSTERY HOOKAHS, where we had to guess what the flavours of Molasses were. We ended up with Coconut and Lime (as per the song), Peach and something odd I can't remember, and Coffee and Melon! Then we had a four hour long game of Fotch (drinking game) and when people left at about 4.30 I think I had already been asleep for a half hour, curled up on an armchair!

Yesterday, went to Garretstown beach with tolcreator and sat in the sun on springy grass at a cliffs edge for a while - and didn't get burned! Shock! :) Then wandered to Castle Freke (heh, such a good name...). Myself and my darling Rosie and Niamh cooked Fajita's and I showcased my wonderful vegetable preparation skillz ;) and we watched a movie and chilled out.
I'm at home today, trying to sort out details about my trip to Oz, and tryin to sort out a place to live for July...Been asked to a BBQ but I think I might just chill out here and see if I can organise things a bit!

So yeah! Wow, even with many details left out, and really basic summaries, that's a LONG post...

I've noticed a recent trend in Cork, and it was summed up quite nicely for me when the IronMan previews were being shown in the cinema.
There are a few cinemas in Cork, but the main one in the city is the Gate Multiplex. Unless you want to go far out of your way to Mahon Point or one of the cinemas in suburbs, the Gate is the one you'll end up going to. People tend to go to the evening showings of the previews, and for some (not overtly clear) reason, while there are two showings, people generally all seem to end up at the same showing!

What was pointed out at IronMan, and again made very clear at the new Indiana Jones movie, was that these movies are like the gamer equivalent of weddings and funerals - meaning that you see anyone and everyone you've not seen in years, and for some of those involved, it's the only time you get to see them during the year!
It's not planned, outside certain lil groups of friends who decide to go along together, but everyone just turns up and takes over a few rows together in the cinema, a big block of gamers! You can tell where we are, in comparison to the other cinema goers, at the end of the film, cos we tend to sit and wait until the credits are over, while the rest of the populace stampedes out of the theatre as fast as they can manage!

It's interesting...

The beach party I randomly decided on throwing last night was...a success! I'm surprised, given the short notice of about 24 hours we gave people and given that a lot of people have exams right now, and a lot of people had work the next morning!
Three cars headed down in a convoy to Ballynamona beach (which I had never been to before) in east Cork, and a party ensued with a big fire, tents, blankets, incense, guitar-ing and singing, snacks, BBQ, juggling, poi, diabolo, drinking and stuff...

A few people headed off kinda early, (like 1am) cos they DID have work in the morning, and the rest of us chatted til the fire died down and it was gettin a lil cold...then wrapped up in our sleeping bags!
Got up early this morning, had a fry in one of our friends houses nearby, and then went for a long amble along the cliffs for the day! Found lots of pretty little coves and beaches along the way...I was so tempted to swim, and the weather was lovely, but the boys wouldn't come in swimming so I decided against cos I would've been holding them em up for ages...damn waste of a good bikini! I've just arrived home now...

Also, an idea has taken root in my head (which is usually a bad thing...): Content!

*wanders off to ponder logistics*

It's been...about a month now since my wallet up and walked off on me at Itzacon.
I've finally got everything sorted out, cards reissued, money made up for and I just got my Student Card this morning, so I can finally get into the library again (as if that's gonna happen very often...)
My new wallet is shiny, black with pictures of cherries, and adorned with a Lego Batman keyring, and I'm quite pleased...

It's not just my wallet I'm pleased with...most things seem to be coming up trumps around me at the moment: the illness that had been threatening since before Warpcon finally hit me full force, and after a week's bed rest, now it's over and done with (*fingers crossed*) and I feel a lot more energetic and healthy!
My college course, after much deliberation, has now been sorted out, so I now know what I'm doing until the end of my MSc, have laid out some plans of what I want to get done for it, and then I can go do whatever it may be that I decide (and get in to, of course).
My appetite appears to be returning (I do hope it's not going through the whole routine of lulling me into a sense of security and then disappearing again!)
I'm writing and drawing a lot, and it's been in awhile since I was in a mood where I had creativity flowing, as well as being able to actually get myself to sit down and do something with it...and enjoy it too!
I'm getting so much work done, and having time to relax in between! It's fantastic...

I hope this lasts long enough to get me to do some driving practice! I'll have a car in less than a week, though I'll have to get insurance...and I'm currently looking forward to learning! Though I'll need a *lot* of practice!

This morning, when I was waiting for the Exams and Records Office to open, so that I could get a new Student Card, I ran with the urge of wanting to sit on one of the really big broad stone windowsills we have in college, and read a book in the sun (Declare by Tim Powers, thanks to mytholder ). Quite a few people wandered past, a few looking enviously and one even saying to me that she wished she was able to do that! It was majorly relaxing...and a really great start to the morning!

I hope things continue like this for awhile...

Yesterday, at Unconventional, I played in a rather amusing LARP.
I played a very picky, and potentially snarky, girl trying to find her True Love,
travelling with her aunt who was trying to set her up with very unlikely candidates. The girl who played my aunt dragged me around the inn away from people I liked, and towards those who were more "suitable".
About ten of the other players were potential suitors! It was mildly insane, but I enjoyed it, and hey, Lady Kima found the perfect candidate - a prince disguised as a soldier who carried her over the threshold!

Today, wish I could be gaming, but I'm getting college work done (ish)

Unconventional was awesome.
