I guess yesterday didn't go entirely according to plan!

In the end I ran free - got some mochi icecream (though they only had coconut flavour, boo!) and went shopping and sat by the Lough with Orla in the sun - fun days :)

I didn't go juggling, and instead decided to go home and do some writing.
My laptop, it seems, had entirely other ideas, and in coordination with the big crack which runs all the way down the screen, it has decided to go on strike, and will not turn on unless I wipe the hard-drive. Fun times, eh? :)

I don't get how some people cannot do absolutely anything unless you organise it for them and make it stupidly easy for them to do.
Or how they can't make simple decisions for themselves about things that totally don't concern me at all, like when should their group meet up with a certain group of other people - and even giving me their time-frame - when really I've given them all the information I can and I'm stupidly busy, and they have to have some competence and make SOME decision on their own. It's not that difficult, folks!
Trying to deal with 37 people here, and just been told I have to give a lecture to 60 students with an hour's notice.

On the plus side, Itzacon will be fun, and its the last fully college organised gaming trip that I have to organise while on the committee - and next year I'm FREE!
I wrote a blog entry yesterday, and the browser crashed and I lost it - and couldn't be bothered writing it again!

Saturday night, I really felt the urge to just stay up all night long, until the morning got bright, and spend the majority of it dancing. This is a strange urge for me, as I usually don't do the whole dancing thing, but I went to bed at around 3 instead, and slept really well. I've gotten back into the swing of things with sleep.
Saturday, in Dublin, was a good day. Actually the whole weekend was great, so relaxing and I feel really rested today! Saturday was particularly fun though. It was cool to hang out with kshandr and Elliot, and have lots of tea and biscuits! :) There was some acting, and some selfconsciousness, computer games and outside that there was some comic book reading, and some other strange things that day. I like to have new experiences, so it was a good day for me. I'm excited to see how things turn out. On Saturday, even though I wanted to stay up all night, I was pretty damn tired when it came to bedtime!

I've been reading a lot of comics lately...V for Vendetta, Watchmen, Y:The Last Man, Fables, The Goon, and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen amongst others. I've also been writing a good bit, and wanting to play music a lot. Though this morning I woke up and decided I wanted to play the piano (cos I'm in a Muse mood. When I listen to Muse, I want to play Muse). So firstly, I couldn't find the piano. Then, when I found it, it was facing a wall, with furniture stacked behind it - and most probably out of tune because it's been moved. No Piano for Noirin.
I made up for this my having coco-pops for breakfast - which is pretty bold - and trying to play the flute, though I can only get a few notes out of it. I think I may have to resort to lessons of some sort!
The family house is still all muddled up, but I've spent a lot of time sorting my things out, and I have a few bags full of things that I'm going to either give away to folks or donate to charity shops. It's stuff I don't really need or use, but hopefully somebody else will get some semblance of enjoyment out of them!

It's Fergal's birthday today, Happy birthday fergalmonster!

Hmmm, I haven't posted in about a month! I suppose I've been busy, but I can't think of a huge amount of things that I've been doing.

I lived in a hotel for a month, while my house at home was getting fixed/done up, and just moved back there yesterday. The hotel was a strange place to live in, as it was a hotel - and really didn't seem like home at all. Moving will take about another week or so, but everything's actually in our house now, we just have to sort things out and put them where they should be!

I was sick for all of last week, with a severe Kidney infection. I got antibiotics (not penecillin cos I'm allergic) which proceeded to give me almost every side effect possible - from delirium to sleeplessness, to ultimate drowsyness to nausea and headaches, and throwing in being very sensitive and getting upset/annoyed at a lot of things. I got cabin fever from being in the hotel for too long on my own! Unfortunately I had to miss the WARPS Weekend Away to Kerry which I had organised for almost 40 folks. I wish so much that I had been well enough to go, but I was just too sick. I've seen the pics, and it looks like people had a great time though! I'm gonna have to make up for it at Itzacon and Leprecon!

Turns out the reason that the room was spinning recently because I have vertigo. I now have pills to help when that happens again - which it invariably will! I haven't slept well for the past...almost 3 weeks now. First I thought it was cos of Warpcon busyness and such, then cos of my illness and then...maybe cos of not feeling settled in the hotel? I slept in my own bed last night for the first time in a month - and surprise, surprise, I *still* didn't get proper sleep. My arm began trying to kill me yesterday for some reason unless I held it in a "sling" position. No idea why...but it seems a little better this morning. All of my other joints ache though, and I have no idea why. Maybe I'm just getting old :P but it's unlikely that's it! Maybe it's an aftermath of the antibiotics...

Warpcon was great! Of course, busy busy being beer faerie, but I can't complain.
My main duty for the whole weekend was to give beer to folks. I made the job a lot easier by compiling GM Packs for those doing RPGs and LARPs for us, and I put beer vouchers and tea/coffee vouchers into these - along with dice, con booklets, pens/pencils, sweets and lollipops, and different types of paper. That meant that all of the GMs had vouchers to begin with...and also all of the trolls were given vouchers. The rest of my job consisted of sorting out the Club and the DJ (thanks a million to hedgetrimmer who did a brilliant job, and had most of us on the dance floor all night. The Club - the Voodoo Lounge in Cork, were very good this year and did almost all that they were asked to do - including moving back the pool tables (shock and horror!) and even giving us a few free bottles of cheap champagne. They didn't set up an XBox and such as they had promised, but most people appeared to have a great night - with plenty of insane crowdsurfing, notably of Gar, John Kovalic and our RPG coordinator Mark, all of who ended up almost clinging to the rafters of the ceiling of the club!

I also ended up helping with a lot of the Auction organisation, mostly just backstage stuff but some stage stuff too. It seemed to be a lot of fun, and we raised between 7000 and 8000 euro for charity. John, most generously, gave us the *entire* takings from his stall for the weekend, which I think added up to around 1600 euro, and added that to the charity money!

Our new special guest this year was David Nykl, from Stargate:Atlantis, who I had met on my weird and wonderful travels in Oz last year and invited to come along. I think at the time he didn't realise that I was actually serious about inviting him over and that I ran the con last year, so he just played along, and he was glad to get the chance to come over when he realised I was actually serious about it all! :) We were delighted to have him too - and I'm glad that most everybody found him to be as lovely and as down-to-earth as I was sure they would. He won our coveted Warpcon Drinking Award for having drank absolutely everything that was put down in front of him on Friday night - and a LOT of drinks were put down in front of him that evening, and for the rest of the weekend.

We took a trip to the Blarney Stone on the Friday after Warpcon, as I hadn't been up there either, and Karen had never kissed it. So myself, David, Steve and Karen headed out there, on a really wet day! Strangely, it must have been gamer day at Blarney Castle, cos with the horrible wet weather, they were doing almost no business, and as we wandered around the almost empty castle, we spotted two more girl gamers from Cork across on the other side of the walls! Had yummy mexican food that evening in Cork and then I headed off to Dublin for a weekend of doing nothing and relaxing a whole bunch. That was really well needed!

I can't think of too much else right now, trying to catch up on work I missed last week! Busy busy busy...
Me? I'm not a counsellor. If you want me to act as one, then pay me €50 an hour. Also, it may have escaped your attention, but people generally SLEEP between the hours of 2am and 7am - why do you keep calling me?! I'll happily answer for a friend, but if you just want to talk as if I'm a free, 24 hour counsellor, I refer you to my previous statement!
    * Person 2: No, I don't want to go to bed with you! I have a boyfriend, and you know that well! It makes things fricking awkward when you say things like that - Feic off!
    * Person 3: You keep asking me to trust you and rely on you, but how can I if you leave me down?!

None of you guys have a LJ, but you read mine - I don't like to be mean, but I just hope that you can get the picture!

BUT the con is on tomorrow...I'm a little grrr at my lack of having a con t-shirt, but I guess it doesn't really matter...so assuming that the place stops spinning, I'm pretty damn excited...

I'm REALLY dazed today.

There's this pencil that has been missing for ages, and I've looked for it a few times - even yesterday when I needed a pencil for corrections and haven't been able to spot it. I was just correcting something a minute ago and looked at my hand and realised the pencil was in my hand and I was correcting a paper with it. NO idea where it came from.

Things appear to be a little bit mad at the moment, I mentioned awhile back that tons of stuff in my house was falling apart and that we had no water or central heating, and since then we have moved into a hotel apartment for a month while the workmen do their thing and hopefully sort the house out. It feels WEIRD living in a hotel - very transient and temporary - and I can't quite get my head around that I'll be here for a whole month.

The weekends of my stay in the hotel appear to consist of 'Weekend-making-puppets-for-the-Warpcon-LARP' (plus birthday party), WARPCON, 'Weekend-where-I'm-doing-absolutely-nothing-and-refuse-to-make-plans-bar-staying-in-bed', and Warps Weekend Away to Kerry.

Anyways, yes, dazed.

1. Where did you begin 2008?
Watching Musicals and chilling out with Dave.

2. What was your status by Valentines Day?
Single and intensely happy to be so! First time in so long - and singleness is awesome!

3. Were you in school anytime this year?
Yep, both college and school. College doing research and occasional lecturing, and being a substitute teacher in school...

4. Did you have to go to the hospital?
Yep, had to go to the hospital to go to school! Figure THAT one out :P

5. Did you have any encounters with the police?
Unless Padraic counts, then no - not in any official capacity! Saw a breathaliser for the first time though!

6. Where did you go on vacation?
Lots of places in Ireland - and Sydney, Brisbane and Byron Bay, and New York...

7. What did you purchase that was over E100?
A laptop and a beautiful smoke coloured dress...

8. Did you know anybody who got married?
Yep! Quite a few, went to one wedding - Ceire and Boomer's...as opposed to the two weddings last year...

9. Did you know anybody who passed away?
Not this year, thank God.

10. Did you move anywhere?
Nope! :) Though I did run away to Oz to live with my bro for 6 weeks

11. What sporting events did you attend?
Gaming is a sport, according to Wikipedia. So I say, Warpcon, Leprecon, Itzacon, Confess, Dominicon, Gaelcon, Gencon Oz, and lots of WARPS gaming nights and Rebel Alliance and Cassidy's!

12. What concerts/shows did you go to?
Muse in Marley Park with a whole bunch of people, Metallica in Marley Park with Scanno, Erin McKeown at the Sugar Club (during Gaelcon with Brian, Baz, Jonathan and Claire), Avenue Q on Broadway last week, and the Nutcracker NYC Christmas ballet. That's all I can remember right now!

13. Describe your birthday.
The actual birthday day was at Leprecon - there were surprise presents, 23 kisses, big badges, lifting on peoples shoulders with people cheering and singing (and me wearing a skirt), followed by another surprise party, more surprise presents like faerie wings and posh-bread cake (hehe!) and 23 kisses again at Itzacon...all madness!

14. What is the ONE thing you thought you would not do, but did, in 2008?
Took lessons in Flying trapeze. I'm afraid of heights where you can fall, and you can pretty damn easily fall off a trapeze - true, onto a net, but still! I'm surprised I did it, and not too sure that I would again.
Hanggliding a week later was NO challenge after to that...

15. What have been your favourite moments?
The song 'Starlight' at the Muse gig. Circus school. The moment I made up my mind to run to Oz a few days later.
First time seeing my bro after not seeing him for a couple months - and eating chips and watching surfers in the sunset. Also this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/23310298@N07/2957359579/
Gotta say - the first beach party of the Summer was wonderful, as were deep sea diving, eating kangaroo stew made by Nat, being surprised and given my favourite childhood toy and the first hug when I stepped into the country after Oz. Warpcon had plenty of fantastic moments too, I just can't choose out of it - the entirity of Warpcon weekend was unbelievable.

16. Any new additions to your family?
Nope! Though I was asked how many kids I had a lil while back!

17. What was your best month?
Hard to say - January had Warpcon, but then June/July had all of that mad Australian stuff, and December so far has had a great NY trip. This year has been spectacularly better than 2007 for me...

18. Who has been your best drinking buddy?
Keavney - always :)

19. Made new friends?
Quite a few - some nearby and some scattered around the world...NZ, Oz, Spain, Canada - always good to meet nice folks!

20. Favourite Night out?
Ah so hard to pick just one! The Masquerade Ball for Halloween was brilliant, and a huge success by all accounts - so maybe that.

21. Other than home, where did you spend most of your time?
My office in College - and Dublin. A lot of weekends were spent there :P

22. Have you lost any friends this year?
Sadly, yes.

23. Change your hairstyle?
Always :P It's not like Turkish Delight now (just so Sarky won't try to eat it) it's back to almost my natural hair colour...

24. Have any car accidents?
None! And I've been learning to drive, so that's good!

25. How old did you turn this year?
23 and three quarters! ;)

26. Do you have a New Years resolution?
I don't really do new years resolutions, but I plan on getting my driving license next year if that counts!

27. Do anything embarrassing?
Always! I'm sure I said plenty embarassing stuff during my Warpcon speech, including telling everyone to go home and that the con was over! Oops!

28. Buy anything from eBay?
Nope, but got the best present ever bought on eBay - from Baz. My favourite childhood toy that I lost when I was 6 - Monkey :) *hugs monkey*

29. Get married or divorced?
Nope! :D

30. Get hit on?
Hahahaha, only once or twice :P

31. Been snowboarding?
Nope, the closest was ice skating in Central Park - awesomeness! I only fell over once this time! Although I guess surfing is kinda close too, but I'm rubbish at it :P

32. Did you get sick this year?
Yep, a few times. Mostly post-convention plague/awful tonsilitis that meant I missed Vaticon. I'm sick now though :P and jetlagged, yay!

33. Are you happy to see 2008 go?
I don't really look at time in chunks like years - as if life will all be suddenly different and we'll all turn over a new leaf just because the calendar date changes. So no, I'm not happy or sad to see it go...time will just go as it always does...

34. Have you been naughty or nice?
Mostly nice - its kinda what I do. But I'm sure I've been naughty once of twice too, but only in a nice way! Hopefully I won't get a stocking full of coal...

35. What are you looking forward to most in 2009?
Warpcon, and visiting more of my friends around the place. Hopefully going on another big trip to somewhere exciting!
